Advantages of Two-Phase Treatment
This specialized approach combines tooth straightening with physical and facial development. The goal is to achieve a healthy, functional, and aesthetically pleasing outcome that remains stable throughout your child’s life.
Consequences of Delaying Treatment
Delaying treatment could lead to the need for more complex procedures later, which might not fully address your child’s orthodontic needs. Early intervention is key for long-lasting results.
Phase One: Building a Foundation
Phase One focuses on jaw development to accommodate all permanent teeth and improve jaw alignment. This phase is critical, especially for children over six showing signs of jaw discrepancies. Early treatment can prevent crowded front teeth and eliminate the need for tooth extraction or surgical jaw realignment later.
Resting Period
After Phase One, we allow the remaining permanent teeth to erupt naturally. This period is crucial for ensuring there’s enough room for these teeth, potentially avoiding impaction or misalignment.
Monitoring Progress
Post Phase One, the teeth are not yet in their final positions. Regular check-ups, typically every six months, are vital for monitoring progress and making any necessary adjustments.
Phase Two: Final Alignment
The objective of Phase Two is to position each tooth precisely for optimal balance with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. This phase often involves full braces on all teeth, typically for about 24 months, followed by retainers to maintain the new smile.
